The article proposes to use fuzzy sets to develop a methodology for determining the level of formation of planned competencies in students of a higher educational institution based on the data of a modular-rating system for assessing academic performance. As a result of the conducted research, it was found that the use of formalized modeling expands the possibilities for assessing students' academic performance, taking into account their intentions and the specifics of the organization of the educational process.
