Analysis of blue water footprint and crop yields of quinoa and cañihua in Puno, suggesting improved water management practices.
Quinoa and caňihua are the main high Andean grains for consumption by the inhabitants of the Puno Region, projecting themselves to be potential foods of a nutraceutical and functional nature for present and future humanity. However, current production and productivity are not adequate. The present work was developed in conditions of CIP-Illpa, Puno at 3823 msnm (2021). The objectives being: Obtain evapotranspiration, and specify the yield of quinoa and cañihua crops in grain; determine the blue water footprint of crops. The methodology to obtain the evapotranspiration and the yield of the quinoa and caňihua crops were via NFC lysimeter. The determination of the blue water footprint was according to the HH evaluation procedure proposed by Hoekstra et al. in 2011, where: HHa = RAC / Y (HHa: blue water footprint; RAC: crop water requirement; Y: crop yield). For the LNFC system experiment, the evapotranspiration of the quinoa Var. “Salcedo INIA” and caňihua Var. "Illpa-INIA 406" were 574.7 and 445.3 mm of water surface respectively. The yields of the crops of quinoa and caňihua in grain deducted from kg ha-1 were 10150.7 and 4485, attributable especially to the adequate provision of irrigation water; Therefore, the blue water footprint of the quinoa and caňihua crops for grain production were 0.566 and 0.993 m3 kg-1 respectively in conditions without soil moisture deficit.
