Qualitative assessment compares mainstream and alternative macroeconomic theories against financial fragility and inequality.
This paper evaluates the explanatory capacity of mainstream and alternative macroeconomic schools through seven stylized facts derived from the post-2008 global economic structure. Using a qualitative matrix, the study compares Monetarist/New Classical, New Keynesian, and Post-Keynesian/Behavioral approaches against observed phenomena such as financial fragility, inequality, climate constraints, and uncertainty. In addition, it offers a country-specific assessment by focusing on Turkey and other developing economies, where structural asymmetries and institutional weaknesses limit the applicability of orthodox models. The study concludes with a call for theoretical pluralism and context-sensitive macroeconomic thinking.
