This innovation reduces dust concentration during tunnel construction, suggesting improved occupational health and environmental outcomes.
During the construction of tunnels, a large amount of dust particulate is generated, leading to severe environmental pollution and posing significant occupational health hazards, particularly in long tunnel projects. Currently, the main method for dust suppression in tunnels is ventilation, but it is not very effective because it is difficult to rapidly and efficiently reduce dust concentration in the work area. This article introduces an innovative microfoam‐based dust suppression device specifically designed for tunnel construction. The device utilizes the strong adsorption properties of microfoam to capture dust, thereby improving the working environment inside the tunnel. The device was tested in several highway tunnel construction sites, and the results showed that it reduced dust concentration to approximately 2 mg/m 3 within 5–10 min of normal ventilation after tunnel blasting. It also significantly reduced the dust concentration to an average of only 1.7 mg/m 3 during the shotcrete process. The microfoam dust removal technology not only can quickly and efficiently reduce dust during tunnel construction but also is a new solution for tunnel dust control.
