Observational analysis finds a significant correlation between chronic energy deficiency in pregnant women and toddler malnutrition, suggesting a public health concern in Magelang Regency.
Toddlers with malnutrition and Stunting is a condition of growth failure due to chronic malnutrition, still a global health problem and in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 21.5% in 2023. The pregnancy period plays a crucial role, where Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women (LiLA < 23.5 cm) is a major risk factor for malnutrition in toddlers. This study aims to examine the relationship between pregnant women with CED and malnutrition in toddlers. This study is an observational analytical study using a study design.cross sectionThis study was conducted retrospectively, where data on independent and dependent variables were collected from existing records over the same period in 2024. The sample size in this study was 1,757 pregnant women with KEK and 4,036 toddlers with malnutrition. Data were obtained from a cohort of mothers and children throughout 2024. This study used an observational analytical design with a retrospective cohort approach. The sample was selected using purposive sampling from pregnant women and children in Magelang Regency. Data collected included the LiLA of pregnant women, as well as the length/height and weight of children to determine malnutrition in toddlers. Data analysis included descriptive and bivariate analysis with the Pearson test. Based on the results of the correlation test,Pearsonregarding the relationship between malnourished toddlers and pregnant women with KEK, the strength and direction of the correlation coefficient valuePearson(r) between malnourished toddlers and pregnant women with CED is 0.415. This value indicates a moderate positive correlation. This means that the higher the number of pregnant women with CED, the higher the number of malnourished toddlers, and vice versa. The significance value (p-value or Sig. (2-tailed)) is 0.025 because the p-value (0.025) is smaller than the specified significance level (0.05), so it can be concluded that the correlation between malnourished toddlers and pregnant women with CED is statistically significant. This means that the relationship observed in this sample is likely to also exist in the population.
