Qualitative multiple case study highlights the unique IPV experiences of Black male students at HBCUs and PWIs.
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is physical and/or sexual violence, stalking, and psychological aggression among romantic partners. Black/African American college students are at an increased risk, yet limited research has focused on the experiences of the target group. This qualitative multiple case study explored the experiences of IPV among three Black college males from a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) and a Predominately White Institution (PWI) in the Southeast United States. Analysis of the one-on-one interview data revealed four themes: 1) (Dis)comfort/Desensitized, 2) No one Intervenes/Selective Sharing, 3) Staying in your Lane, and 4) Not about us (males), with implications discussed.
