Proposed control strategy reduces negative-sequence currents in VSC-HVDC systems, enhancing power quality and stability.
With the rapid growth of clean energy and High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technologies, ensuring stable power transmission is essential. Modular Multilevel Converters (MMC), crucial in Voltage Source Converter (VSC)-HVDC systems, face challenges under AC side unbalanced conditions, such as negative-sequence currents and power fluctuations. Existing control strategies are inadequate in addressing these issues. This paper proposes an outer-loop-based unbalance control strategy that decouples positive- and negative-sequence currents, improving system stability. Simulations demonstrate the method’s effectiveness in eliminating negative-sequence currents and reducing power fluctuations, enhancing the reliability and power quality of VSC-HVDC systems, and offering a promising solution for large-scale renewable energy integration.
