Abstract: The emergence of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) represents a transformative shift in the transportation industry, and the integration of 5G technology is poised to accelerate this revolution. This report explores the role of 5G in enabling interconnected autonomous vehicles, highlighting the critical features of 5G that enhance vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication. With ultra-low latency, high-speed data transmission, and massive device connectivity, 5G enables real-time communication between vehicles, infrastructure, and central systems, improving safety, traffic management, and driving efficiency. Through the use of 5G-enabled sensors, edge computing, and artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles can make split-second decisions, avoid collisions, and dynamically adjust routes based on live traffic data. The report also examines the potential of 5G in supporting smart transportation ecosystems, where AVs operate in harmony with connected infrastructure, such as traffic lights, road sensors, and cloud-based traffic control systems. Additionally, it discusses the implications of 5G for enhancing vehicle safety, reducing accidents, and minimizing traffic congestion through coordinated driving. However, the adoption of this technology also presents challenges, including infrastructure upgrades, data security, and privacy concerns.
