This analysis uncovers links among workaholism, authenticity, and life satisfaction, suggesting implications for managing workaholism.
This study seeks to serve as a stepping-stone for determining what specific aspects of the workaholic’s personality are affected by the condition and how the experience differs by individual. Thus, we investigated the relationships among workaholism, authenticity, and life satisfaction. Data were collected, through an online survey, from 358 faculty and staff members at a large Southeastern university. Workaholism and authenticity were negatively related to each other. Workaholism and authenticity also predicted life satisfaction. Moreover, a partial mediating effect of authenticity on the workaholism and life satisfaction relationship was found. A link between workaholism and authenticity provides a better understanding of workaholic behavioral patterns and gives some insight into how to manage workaholism.
