An analysis of the structure, phase composition and dislocation substructure in the head fillet of long-length differentially hardened special-purpose rails made of E90KhAF / Э90ХАФ steel has been carried out after a passed tonnage of 187 million gross tons. The formation of flexural extinction contours was noted, indicating the elastically stressed state of the material. The sources of curvature-torsion of the crystal lattice - intraphase and interphase boundaries - were identified and the mechanisms of destruction of cementite plates were determined.
