Finite element modeling predicts biomechanical behavior and reliability of knee joint endoprosthesis components under functional load.
The finite element modeling of the stress-strain state has been performed and the mechanical behavior of the biotechnical system «femur-knee joint endoprosthesis» has been analyzed. The metal components of the endoprosthesis are made of titanium alloy VT6, the plateau of the tibial component is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. The stresses in the bone structures and the most loaded components of the endoprosthesis were calculated at a functional load of 3300 N. A high degree of similarity of the biomechanical behavior of the biotechnical system (with the endoprosthesis) to the behavior of a healthy femur was established. It is shown that the stresses and strains of all components of the biotechnical system do not exceed critical values. The calculation results made possible to predict the operability and reliability of the endoprosthesis components under static and cyclic loads, the wear resistance of the mobility unit and the reliability of the cement mantle.
