Analysis reveals ultrasonic vibration improves shear force and reduces riveting force in rivet connections using D18 alloy.
As a study result of ultrasonic riveting, it has been found that the application of vibrations allows one several times to reduce the riveting force and changes the nature of the deformation of a rivet. At the beginning, the rivet rod is tapped and the gap between the rivet and the mounting hole is filled with deformed metal, then the closing head is formed. The connection with a rivet made of D18 alloy deformed by ultrasound has a significant increase in the shear force.
