Pre-experimental design measures health improvements in postpartum mothers, suggesting nursing care is crucial.
The purpose of the study was to assess the effect of nursing care on mothers with postpartum haemorrhage. The objectives were to assess the health status of mothers with postpartum haemorrhage, to evaluate the effect of nursing care on mothers with postpartum haemorrhage and to find out the correlation between selected socio demographic variables and the effect of nursing care on mothers with postpartum haemorrhage. A pre experimental – one group pretest posttest research design was used in this study. A total of thirty mothers were selected by using convenience sampling technique. A Performa of socio demographic variables, an observational check list and a rating scale was used to collect the data from the study subjects. The socio demographic data was collected for ten minutes. Assessment was done with a rating scale. The nursing care was given for all days during the study period. In the pretest, out of 30 mothers, 23 (76.67%) mothers had severe health deterioration and 7 (23.33%) mothers had moderate health deterioration. In the post test, out of 30 mothers 26 (86.67%) mothers had mild health deterioration and 4 (13.33%) mothers had moderate health deterioration. Sign test was used to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care on mothers with postpartum haemorrhage. Correlation was used to find the correlation between the effect of nursing care on mothers with postpartum haemorrhage and their selected socio demographic variables. The improvement score with the pretest and post test showed a mean of 25.37 with the standard deviation of 7.59. There was an improvement in health status of mothers with postpartum haemorrhage. Nurses working in ward should assess the mothers and then plan for giving nursing care according to priority. Nursing care plays a significant role in protecting the mothers from complications.
