This research demonstrates strong AIEE in a piperazine-linked naphthalimide, highlighting its potential for advanced fluorescence applications.
Fluorophores exhibiting aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) have gained significant attention due to their wide-ranging applications in sensing, imaging, and optoelectronic devices. In this work, we designed and synthesized a 1,8-naphthalimide derivative functionalized at the C-4 position with a 1-(2,3-dichlorophenyl) piperazine group. The compound demonstrates strong self-assembly in DMSO/H₂O mixtures, resulting in enhanced fluorescence through AIEE. Fluorescence spectroscopy combined with microscopy revealed that molecular packing in the aggregated state restricts intramolecular motion, thereby improving emission efficiency. These findings underscore the potential of naphthalimide-based systems as versatile building blocks for the development of advanced fluorescent materials.
