Online training platform offers educational resources for FRCS and CCT, aiming to standardize surgical training in the UK.
Aim In response to the GMC National Training Survey and National Educational and Training Survey (NETS) highlighting regional variation in surgical training and FRCS attainment, NHS England have commissioned a National Online Training Hub. The aim is to provide free educational resources to enable Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) attainment. Method The national training hub is hosted on the PostGraduate Virtual Learning Environment (PGVLE). This web-based platform is a free to access resource to all surgical trainees and locally employed doctors with an NHS e-mail address. National Online Training Programme Leads and Fellows from around the UK create content for each of the 10 surgical specialities and the Common Curricular Content. Here we present the Common Curricular Content, which covers the GMC Generic Professional Capabilities in areas such as research, training, leadership and management required for safe effective medical care in the UK. Results A QR code will be displayed to allow conference attendees to sign up to this free educational resource. We will showcase some of the available resources including learning modules in research; and leadership; a sexual safety in surgery module in collaboration with RCS England; useful resources; wellbeing resources and more. Conclusion It is hoped that these free educational resources can reach and benefit all surgeons in training and locally employed doctors in the UK.
