Observed changes in dielectric and optical characteristics of ferroelectric yttrium chromite with increased doping, suggesting enhanced performance.
Authors have reported the effect of Fe doping on the electrical characteristics of relaxor‐ferroelectric yttrium chromite nanoparticles prepared through sol–gel method. The dielectric, current voltage, capacitance voltage, and optical characteristics are reported. The temperature dependency of DC resistivity traces the semiconducting nature. DC activation energy is found to be reduced with the rise of the Fe doping concentration. Defused relaxation peaks are noticed and the diffuseness factor is found to be increased with the increase of Fe concentration. Enhancement of relaxor‐ferroelectric nature has been noticed with increased Fe concentration. Optical bandgap and Urbach energy are calculated. Photoluminescence spectra indicate clear emission of red light in the visible range near about 610 nm. Following capacitance–voltage characteristics, free and trap carrier concentrations are computed, with increasing Fe doping concentration. The current–voltage (I–V) characteristics can be interpreted based on thermionic emission and Schottky emission models, assuming the formation of back‐to‐back Schottky diodes. As the doping concentration of Fe increases, the barrier height decreases while the ideality factor increases. The high ideality factor suggests that charge carrier generation and recombination within the depletion layer, as well as tunneling through the barrier, play a significant role in the transport mechanism.
