This research explores perhydrol as an alternative to ammonium nitrate in explosives, suggesting improved environmental safety in mining operations.
As the development of solid mineral deposits in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation begins, there is a threat of environmental damage caused by the use of ammonium nitrate industrial explosives, i.e. contamination of soils and water sources with nitrate and ammonium nitrogen. The authors consider perhydrol (hydrogen peroxide), an oxidizing agent, which is an alternative to ammonium nitrate, as part of the blended industrial explosives. The paper discusses the composition and presents the results of field testing of this alternative explosive. Prospects of organizing the production of perhydrol immediately at the places of its application are considered for the conditions of industrial sites of mining operations..
