The international trading system is fast drifting away from the ideal of multilateralism. The Trump tariffs have accentuated the crisis that was brewing for some time. They have violated the WTO rule book in multiple ways so that a going back to the WTO disciplines or its founding principles would be difficult. India needs to develop a new trade and development strategy and seize the opportunity of the global reset to redefine her role in the international division of labour.
