Simulation study reveals critical parameters of thermocapillary convection in double-layer fluids, implying impacts on flow stability.
Considering the dynamic deformation of the interface of the two-layer fluid, the thermo-capillary force acts along this curved interface, and the stability of thermo-capillary convection of the two-layer fluid under microgravity is numerically investigated. The model is an annular pool with the outer wall at a high temperature and the inner wall at a low temperature. The computational results show the relationship between the inhomogeneous flow field due to the viscosity difference between the upper and lower fluid layers and the flow stability, the specific critical turning parameters at higher viscosity ratios, and the location of the initial disturbance source.
