Age-related changes such as bone loss, cartilage wear, and disc degeneration often cause pain and reduced mobility, affecting 36.6% of older adults. One common age-related condition is cervical spondylosis, known in Ayurveda terms as Greeva stambha (~stiffness of neck), which impacts the Jatru urdhva (~part of the body above the clavicle). Here presents a case report of a 70-year-old male complaining of stiffness and pain in the neck for five months, aggravated for the past seven days associated with pain in the right shoulder and heaviness in the neck region along with headache. After thorough examination, a diagnosis of Greeva stambha was made, and the patient was treated with Greeva basti (~therapeutic retention of oil over cervical region) and Shirovirechana nasya karma (~evacuatory errhine therapy) with Shula prashamana mahakashaya taila (~oil prepared of group of ten anti-spasmodic drugs) . The pain readings on the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) and Neck Disability Index (NDI) before and after treatment were noted. There was improvement in NPRS and NDI along with a considerable reduction in other associated symptoms such as neck stiffness, headache, and heaviness. The provided Ayurveda treatment module showed promising results in the management of such age-related morbidities, particularly Greeva stambha, which can be further adopted in the future for the treatment of similar cases.
