Observational analysis reveals articular head remodeling in temporomandibular joint, suggesting a link to occlusion anomalies.
Despite many years of research on the influence of dentofacial anomalies on the functional state of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), many orthodontists, when treating them, focus only on correcting the position of individual teeth and the shape of the dental arches, and the position of the condylar processes of the lower jaw in the articular fossa is ignored. Under the influence of functional load on the TMJ, condylar processes of the mandible may undergo restructuring, so we conducted an analysis of the cone beam computed tomography of the TMJ in the lateral projection, demonstrating different phases of the articular head remodeling in various types of occlusion pathologies.
