Observational analysis showed significant correlation of IOP measurements in patients, suggesting NCT is viable for mass glaucoma screening.
Purpose: To assess and compare the intraocular pressure (IOP) with a non contact tonometer (NCT) versus a goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) in relation to the central corneal thickness (CCT). Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 102 eyes. CCT was measured by specular microscopy. Patients were divided into three groups (34 eyes in each group) based on different CCT values: G1, <505 µm; G2, 505–567 µm, and G3, >567 µm. IOP was measured using both NCT and GAT. Results: IOP measurement with NCT and GAT showed a statistically significant correlation in all three groups ( P < 0.001). Conclusion: IOP is a modifiable risk factor in glaucoma. NCT being noncontact and noninvasive technique can be used as an alternative to GAT for mass IOP screening, which helps in early detection of glaucoma.
