Investigation reveals the impact of fan blade geometry on CPU cooling performance, suggesting design improvements.
This research aims at investigating the thermal performance of laptop cooling fans. I also plan on focusing fan blade geometry and its relationship with CPU temperature reduction. If there is excessive CPU heat, this can degrade the overall conceptual performance, reduce the hardware longevity and most importantly increase energy consumption. With the help of theoretical modelling based on Newton’s Law of Cooling, this study’s objective is to predict the effect of three different fan blade geometries- flat, curved and twisted; on cooling rates and convective heat transfer. I designed the 3 blade models using Autodesk Fusion, and the estimations on convective heat transfer coefficients (ℎ) were taken as 50 W/m²·K for the flat blade, 70 W/m²·K for the curved blade, and 90 W/m²·K for the twisted blade.
