This article analyses a few select aspects of the growth of higher education in the state of Telangana during the last decade, i.e., ever since it became a separate state. Despite very poor performance in literacy, the state has made impressive growth in higher education. However, the system is plagued with a few serious problems in terms of uneven growth, poor quality of higher education, the predominance of the private sector, too many small and mono-disciplinary institutions, etc. Drawing from the National Education Policy 2020, the paper suggests a few measures of restructuring and reforming higher education in the state.
