The management of healthcare waste is an increasing challenge for public health and the environment, intensified by the expansion of healthcare services and technological advancements. This research aimed to analyze the progression of waste production, the challenges faced both in Brazil and globally, and to present sustainable alternatives for its proper disposal. Based on data from governmental and academic sources, a significant increase in the generation of such waste has been observed, driven by the growing demand for healthcare services. The results indicate that the implementation of efficient public policies, the use of innovative technologies, and the proper training of professionals are key strategies to mitigate environmental impacts and ensure safe disposal.
