Simple formulas are proposed to calculate the dispersion characteristics of connected microstrip lines quickly and accurately. The errors in calculating the dispersion characteristics according to the proposed formulas in comparison with the exact values are investigated. The method of determining the geometric parameters of lines for the synthesis of a directional coupler on microstrip lines is proposed. The characteristics of a directional coupler are compared using a projection approach and modeling in computer-aided design systems.
