Research reveals limited interest among female teachers in climbing administrative hierarchy, highlighting gender segregation.
The present research focuses on the lack of interest of female teachers in Secondary Education in High School to claim positions of responsibility in their school hierarchy. It was conducted during the 2016-2017 academic year through a Questionnaire, at Eleftheroupoli Kavala High School and included 38 female teachers. The research data shows that the overwhelming percentage of them do not want to reach the administrative hierarchy, even though they have the credentials (work experience, postgraduate qualifications, certified in computers, foreign language skills) and skills to complete their tasks. Female teachers acknowledge that the lack of interest in development is influenced by the multifaceted family-raising children-caring the familiar ones in the Greek region and associate it with their need to collaborate with students, because they feel more creative. In addition, they consider that the establishment of Men"s Executive Committees does not ensure their ascension to high positions, reinforcing gender segregation and social inequality.
