Case report demonstrates successful disimpaction of fecaloma with Coca-Cola injection in a 75-year-old man, suggesting an alternative to surgery.
Abstract Fecalomas are hard stool formations, accumulated primarily in the distal colon and rectum, which can cause intestinal obstruction and serious complications. They commonly occur in the elderly or neuropsychiatric patients. Management is usually conservative, but when this is insufficient, surgical intervention may be required. We present the case of a 75-year-old man with constipation of two weeks' duration. After an abdominal CT scan revealed a large fecaloma, conservative treatment was initiated, with no resolution of the condition. Subsequently, endoscopic treatment was performed with Coca-Cola® injections in several areas of the fecaloma, successfully breaking it up and thus normalizing the patient's bowel movement.
