Qualitative analysis reveals changing responsibilities of teachers in distance education, highlighting self-regulation and communication.
The present research focuses on the role of the teacher in distance education at the time of the pandemic, in the spring of 2020. Using as a tool the semi-structured interviewl, a survey was conducted on ten teachers of Secondary Education schools of Ioannina, who used asynchronous education in addition to teleconferences during the suspension of the operation of school units. Research has shown that the role of the teacher in electronic environments is changing, essentially being upgraded but also becoming more demanding. The teacher diring distance education offers a pedagogically appropriate electronic environment in which he constructs stuntents’ learning. Essentially, the findings of the research show that the teacher works in two directions. Primarily one activates meditation by promoting exploratory learning and (to a lesser extent) guides students during activities of self-regulation and self-learning. Furthermore, the teacher continuously encourages, advises, motivates, gives feedback and communicates with students and their parents.
