Observational study explores participation factors in online communities for informatics educators, suggesting improvements for engagement.
A study was designed and implemented to empirically understand an online community of Informatics teachers in middle schools, which was created and managed by an Informatics Education Consultant on the e-me digital platform. The purpose of the study is to explore attitudes and opinions of the members of the online community, as well as factors that encourage or hinder their active participation. An anonymous online questionnaire was used. Although many teachers express a positive attitude toward active participation in the online community, during the first few months of its operation, only a portion of them actively engage by making posts. A key factor negatively affecting teachers" active participation in the online community is the lack of time. Encouragement from the Education Consultant in various ways appears to positively influence teachers" intentions to participate. It is important that the study"s findings are taken into account in the continued operation of the online community to enhance participation and support the professional development of teachers.
