Assessment reveals heterotic grape seedlings demonstrating economically valuable traits, indicating potential for breeding.
The article presents the results of studies carried out in 2022–2023 on the assessment of economically valuable properties, and selection of heterotic seedlings in the population ‘Kok Pandas’ × ‘Zeibel 5575’. In the studied population, ‘Kok Pandas’ was used as a female parent form. It is a Crimean autochthonous wine grape variety of mid-late ripening, with a functionally female flower type, and green-yellow berries. The variety ‘Zeibel 5575’, characterized by a complex of traits (resistance to fungal diseases and frost, presence of varietal flavor, high cropping capacity), was taken as a male parent. The studies were carried out on a breeding plot in the village Vilino, Bakhchisarai district. The planting scheme of grape bushes was 3 × 1.5 m, bush training – one-armed Guyot, open-earth non-irrigated plot. The object of re-search was a population of 14 seedlings and original parent forms of ‘Kok Pandas’ and ‘Zeibel 5575’. Hybrid depression was estab-lished for the trait of bunch weight with a deviation towards the inferior parent ‘Zeibel 5575’. At the same time, four heterotic seedl-ings were separated in accordance with this trait. An intermediate principle of inheri-tingthe mass concentration of sugars trait was revealed with a deviation towards the supe-rior parent form ‘Kok Pandas’. The seedlings in the number of 64.3%, heterotic for this trait (heterosis effect from +1.32 to +5.7%), were separated. The seedlings selected were grouped as sources of economically valuable traits to be further included in the breeding process. Such indicators of trait dominance degree as fruiting coefficient and shoot prod-uctivity by the raw bunch weight, indicate the presence of hybrid depression. Based on the combination of traits and presence of bisexual flower type, seedling No. 8-8-4 was separated (bunch weight, mass concentration of sugars, fruiting coefficient, shoot productivity by the raw bunch weight).
