This article reveals design rules for steel structure floating piers, highlighting the impact of ground conditions.
<ns3:p>Floating piers constitute an integral part of the landscape of natural or artificial water reservoirs. These structures are used as yacht marinas, walking piers, cafés or possibly other types of recreational places. Their construction requires a non-standard, individualized approach by the designer. The design process usually considers the characteristics of the coastline conditions, which affect the structural solutions used. This applies in particular to the solution of the access method to the pier. The possible use of stairs or ramps will, in these circumstances, depend on whether the shore is flat, sloping or steep. The shape of the bottom of the water reservoir also has an important influence in this case, which determines how the pier plate is fixed. Another important factor is the shape of the elements ensuring the adjustment of the supporting structure to changes in the water level in the reservoir.
