The relevance of developing calculation methods to justify the selection of protection options for automatic fire extinguishing systems in a high-rise rack warehouse — either with a single-tier arrangement of high-performance sprinklers under the ceiling or with a multi-tier arrangement — is determined by considerations of economic efficiency and feasibility. At the same time, ensuring the safety of people in a high-rise rack warehouse must be unconditionally prioritized. The authors propose using the criterion of reduced costs to select the optimal fire protection option for a high-rise rack warehouse. The value of this criterion should decrease when transitioning from a system with a multi-tiered sprinkler arrangement to one with a single-tiered configuration. The information support for the methodology described in the article includes the following data: • projected direct fire damage in the warehouse; • fire damage during successful extinguishment (localization) of the fire for both sprinkler arrangements; • capital and operational expenses; • probabilities of successful extinguishment (localization) in a high-rise rack warehouse with single-tier and multi-tier sprinkler systems. The article presents a methodology for quantitatively substantiating (verifying the feasibility) of implementing a single-tier automatic fire extinguishing system in a high-rise rack warehouse compared to a multi-tier system. The proposed methodology enables designers, based on variant analysis and specific criteria, to determine the optimal configuration for an automatic fire suppression system in a high-rise rack warehouse storing hazardous materials. This variant design methodology allows evaluating automatic fire sprinkler system options in high-rise rack warehouses from multiple perspectives: risk of fire damage; probabilistic reliability and effectiveness of fire suppression; capital and operational fire protection costs and also helps establish the most economically viable design solution for automatic fire extinguishing systems.
