Empirical survey reveals immersive technology enhances audience engagement in VR concerts, suggesting positive viewing experience implications.
This study investigates the impact of immersive technology on the viewing experience of VR concerts, which have emerged as a prominent entertainment business model in response to the surge in demand for remote content following the COVID-19 pandemic. Immersive technologies offer audiences an enhanced sense of presence and interactivity, simulating the experience of being physically present at live events. Drawing on extensive academic literature and previous research, this paper establishes theoretical definitions for virtual environments, immersive technology, and VR concerts. An empirical survey was conducted among individuals with VR concert experience to analyze how immersive technology influences their viewing experiences. The findings indicate that immersive technology significantly enhances audience engagement by providing a high level of immersion, realism, interactivity, and accessibility beyond physical limits. These factors serve as primary motivations for attending VR concerts. Furthermore, audiences reported experiencing novel sensory stimulation and interactive experiences that are difficult to replicate in traditional offline concerts—positively influencing both their satisfaction and willingness to attend future VR concerts. This study highlights the pivotal role of immersive technology in the popularization and future development of VR concerts. It also emphasizes the need for further research to minimize technological drawbacks and optimize the overall audience experience.
