Critical analysis reveals poor prognosis for patients with incidental gallbladder carcinoma, indicating reoperation may improve outcomes.
Introduction: Incidental gallbladder carcinoma (IGBC) is rare, with an incidence of approximately 0.6% following cholecystectomy. Despite its rarity, prognosis remains poor, with a reported 5-year survival rate of only 40.8%. Current German guidelines recommend reoperation with resection of the gallbladder bed and regional lymph nodes for IGBC staged higher than T1a.
