Research shows that PtCo/C reduces energy consumption in hydrogen production from seawater with SO2, suggesting new avenues for energy technologies.
The potential for hydrogen production through electrolysis using abundant seawater resources is huge, but it faces challenges such as slow anode reaction, chloride ion corrosion, and high cost of Pt. The anodic performance of the Pt-based bimetallic catalyst based on SO 2 electrooxidation coupled seawater hydrogen production system was studied. In the simulated alkaline seawater environment containing SO 3 2- , PtCo/C achieves the best performance due to its lower charge transfer impedance. Compared with Pt/C, the energy consumption per unit of hydrogen production has decreased by 26%, which is of great significance for promoting the development of new energy technologies.
