Synthesis of CeCu/SiO2-Al2O3 as an efficient catalyst shows long-term stability in CO oxidation, indicating effective CO management.
Coal gangue is a dominant solid waste originated from coal mining and production, and the extraction of effective ingredients is pursued as a promising route to realize the utilization of coal gangue. Herein, the CeCu/SiO 2 ‐Al 2 O 3 was synthesized as an efficacious and stable catalyst, involving the extraction of SiO 2 ‐Al 2 O 3 support from raw coal gangue and the loading of active components. This catalyst exhibited good activity, wide operation temperature window and long‐term stability of 38 h in preferential oxidation of CO. Ex situ characterizations and operando spectroscopic analyses revealed that abundant oxygen vacancies not only help with the formation of transient and active oxygen species during catalysis but also assist in the retention of Cu 2+ and Cu + under the harsh reaction conditions. This work opens a new pathway for the reuse of coal gangue.
