Case study reveals abdominal aortic aneurysm in a patient initially diagnosed with prolapsed intervertebral disc, highlighting differential diagnosis importance.
Lower back pain radiating to the lower limb is a common presentation, often attributed to prolapsed intervertebral disc (PIVD). However, atypical underlying causes must be considered in certain cases. A male in his late fifties presented with similar chief complaints, initially suggestive of PIVD, and on further evaluation, he was found to have an abdominal aortic aneurysm. This case underscores the importance of history-taking, thorough evaluation, multidisciplinary approach while highlighting the need to consider and rule out differential diagnosis, and structured diagnostic approach to prevent misdiagnosis and improve patient outcomes.
