Bi-level optimization minimizes costs while maximizing output reliability for pumped storage power stations, suggesting enhanced operation modes.
With the gradual construction of new power systems, the development and construction of new energy bases supported by pumped storage power stations has become an inevitable trend. Aiming at the problems that the capacity configuration of a pumped storage power station serving specific power supply needs to take into account the consumption of new energy, comprehensive benefits, and electricity supply, and the operation mode of the power station has changed. A bi-level optimization model for capacity configuration of a pumped storage power station serving a specific power supply is established. The outer model aims at minimizing the present cost, and the inner model aims at maximizing the guarantee rate during peak hours. The particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to optimize the optimal configuration capacity. A new operation mode of pumped storage power stations under the high proportion of wind power and photovoltaic access is discussed, and the impact factors of the operation mode are identified by the grey correlation analysis method. The Gobi base in Xinjiang province is taken as a typical case, and the Chaidamu Desert base, Badain Jaran Desert base, and Taklimakan Desert base are selected for verification. The results show that the proposed method is technically feasible and economically reasonable. The pumped storage power station can adjust its operation state in time according to the real-time fluctuation of the new energy output, effectively realizing the power regulation efficiently. Transmission load and new energy penetration are the dominant factors in different categories of operation modes. It is suitable for providing work guidance and technical reference for the planning, design, construction, and operation of pumped storage power stations serving specific power sources.
