Descriptive correlational analysis reveals significant links between nostalgia and psychological loneliness in elderly populations, highlighting gender differences.
The present study investigates the levels of nostalgia and psychological loneliness among elderly residents in Jordanian care homes, exploring how these emotional states differ by age and gender, and the nature of their interrelationship. Employing a descriptive correlational design, 125 elderly individuals completed validated nostalgia and psychological loneliness scales. Findings revealed high levels of both constructs, with statistically significant gender differences favoring females. No significant differences were found based on age. A strong positive correlation was observed between nostalgia and psychological loneliness. This study contributes to educational sciences by suggesting how nostalgia might be used constructively within educational and psychosocial frameworks for elderly care. Implications for emotional learning, counselor training, and structured reminiscence therapy are explored, offering practical applications for educators and gerontological practitioners.
