Analysis shows limited effects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Israeli-Egyptian relations, highlighting security interests.
This paper examines the impact of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the Israeli-Egyptian relations between 2014 and 2023. First, by introducing the reader to the important determinants of the relations between Israel and Egypt by highlighting relevant events in history and providing the necessary geopolitical data, the study prepares the reader for deep analysis of the two fields of mutual Israeli-Egyptian cooperation – combating terrorism in the Sinai Peninsula and collaboration in the natural gas field. This paper aims to research whether the Israeli-Palestinian conflict impacts mentioned security interests of Egypt, and if so, how strong this effect is and how it manifests. To test this hypothesis, author analyzes the security issues in the Sinai Peninsula, their significance for Egypt and Israel, collaboration on this field and juxtaposes it against Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Then, following the same approach, examines cooperation in the energy security field between two countries. By analyzing public surveys, actions of states and relevant research papers, the study concludes that the impact of the conflict between Israel and Palestine on the Egyptian-Israeli relations occurs but it’s so limited that it does not deeply affect cooperation between Israel and Egypt. Profits from mutual collaboration and internal security interests are put over potential external security concern of Palestinian-Israeli conflict and its political significance.
