Observational analysis revealed bilateral variations in obturator artery origin, indicating surgical significance.
Obturator artery is the branch of the anterior division of the internal iliac artery. Variations in its origin are always noted, and these variations are very important from the surgical point of view. During routine undergraduate dissection, the variable origin of the obturator artery was noted bilaterally. Obturator artery was arising from the external iliac artery on the right as well as the left side. Its embryological basis and clinical significance are also discussed in this case. Knowledge of the anomalous origin of obturator artery from the posterior division of the internal iliac artery is helpful to vascular surgeons while planning endovascular treatment. Furthermore, this type of variation must be known by surgeons during the repair of femoral hernia.
