A new species, Orphilus dudkoi, is identified in Eocene amber, revealing insights into the Orphilini tribe and Dermestidae family.
A new species of the tribe Orphilini (Dermestidae: Orphilinae), Orphilus dudkoi sp. nov., is described and illustrated in Priabonian Baltic amber. This species differs from the recent Orphilus niger (Rossi, 1790) in having a smaller body size, wider elytra and a narrower antennal club. This is the oldest record of the tribe Orphilini and the first discovery of the genus Orphilus Erichson, 1846 in the Eocene of Europe.
