Analysis of verbs from the Dictionary of the Russian Language shows limited emphasis on manner of motion.
In this paper, Russian verbs of motion are studied in the frame of cognitive semantics. From this point of view, the Russian language is characterized by the salience of manner of motion. This claim is challenged with the help of the corpus collected in the four-volume Dictionary of the Russian Language (MAS) (Yevgen’yeva 1981–1984). The collected data show that overall a small proportion of verbs in the examined dictionary expresses manner of motion.
