Research explores how remote work capabilities enhance task performance in multinational enterprises, suggesting effective virtual collaboration methods.
The post-COVID-19 Era presents a significant opportunity to examine the performance of virtual teams in task execution. This study aims to explore the impact of remote-working capabilities on the task performance of virtual teams in multinational enterprises (MNEs). Focusing on the actual features of remote work for virtual teams, especially COVID-induced virtual teams, the study explores the connotation of remote work capabilities appealing to the TOE framework, namely media adaptation ability, cultural agility, and interpersonal connectivity competence. Through the questionnaire survey and quantitative analysis of 71 virtual teams of Chinese MNEs along the Belt and Road with SPSS 27.0 and Amos 21.0, the study concludes that remote-work capabilities have a significant positive impact on task performance through virtual collaboration as a mediating role. The findings may help further explain the key factors to enhancing task performance in the post-COVID era, provide practical guidance for virtual team management, and promote the competitiveness of virtual teams.
