This research demonstrates improved critical temperature in REBCO wires using LaNiO3, suggesting cost-effective layers enhance performance.
The study aims to reduce the cost of REBa 2 Cu 3 O y (REBCO, RE=rare earth elements) superconducting wires by reducing the silver stabilization layer. In this study, we propose using a conductive LaNiO 3 (LNO) intermediate layer to bypass fault currents in the REBCO wires. The conductive LNO thin films were successfully deposited on SrTiO 3 substrates using Nd:YAG-pulsed laser deposition. And then YBa 2 Cu 3 O y layers were also deposited on the LNO layers, epitaxially. The critical temperature was improved by increasing the film thickness.
