Qualitative analysis explores business model innovation in the platform economy, highlighting challenges and governance needs.
The rapid rise of the platform economy and the lazy economy is driven by the proliferation of the internet and the fast pace of modern life. The platform economy boosts the efficiency of resource allocation through digital connectivity, while the lazy economy centers on consumer demand for convenience and time-saving solutions. However, existing research lacks a comprehensive analysis of the innovation, evolution, and restructuring of business models within the lazy economy from the perspective of the platform economy, particularly in addressing the conflicts and challenges that arise in this context. This study employs a qualitative research approach, integrating literature review and case analysis to examine business model innovation, transformation, restructuring, and development trends. The findings reveal that technological advancements and evolving consumer demands drive business model innovation, with platform mechanisms shifting from matching services to mixed operations, alongside upgrades in consumer needs and comprehensive technological empowerment. Besides, the rise of digital platforms has redefined how value is created and resources are distributed, but this shift has intensified concerns about internal inefficiencies and external issues like the growing concentration of power. To ensure synergy between the lazy economy and the platform economy, it is essential to establish multi-level governance, as business models increasingly evolve toward intelligence, ecological integration, and personalization.
