This letter demonstrates stable performance of a circularly polarized antenna, suggesting enhanced beamwidth via electromagnetic coupling.
In this letter, a circularly polarized rectangular dielectric resonator antenna with stable wide half power beamwidth (HPBW) and wide axis‐ratio beamwidth (ARBW) is proposed. Four dielectric blocks are added around the rectangular dielectric resonator antenna, and the TE111 modes of both the center dielectric block and the surrounding dielectric blocks are excited simultaneously by the gaps and electromagnetic coupling, resulting in broadening the HPBW. Moreover, through the modified ground, the ARBW of the antenna can be widened. To verify the feasibility of the design and explain the working principle, an antenna prototype was produced and measured. The measurement results showed that within the available bandwidth range of 2.42–3.02 GHz (22.1%), the HPBW and ARBW of the antenna on the xoz‐plane were at least 151° and 146°, and on the yoz‐plane were at least 117° and 158°. Especially, the maximum HPBW and ARBW can simultaneously achieve 180° and 148° on the xoz‐plane, 121° and 192° on the yoz‐plane.
