Research evaluates barriers to IoT use in safety testing of mobile devices, indicating a need for better regulations and integration strategies.
This study investigated the barriers that hinder the implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT) in safety and aging tests in the mobile telephony sector in the Industrial Park of Manaus, considering the transformative potential of IoT to optimize processes, increase efficiency and improve real-time monitoring. The research was motivated by the realization that, despite the technological advances and promises associated with IoT, its adoption in this specific context has been limited by technical, regulatory and structural obstacles. To achieve the proposed objectives, we first conducted a systematic literature review, which allowed us to identify a broad set of barriers identified in previous studies. The DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) method was then applied, with the support of experts in the field, to identify the influence and interdependence of these barriers. The results showed that the barriers with the greatest degree of influence over the others were the Shortage of Qualified Professionals, the Lack of Regulation and the Complexity of Integration, which stood out as central causal elements within the network of relationships analyzed. On the other hand, barriers such as Interoperability and Architecture and Standards appeared more as consequences of other structural constraints. Based on these analyses, a conceptual framework was proposed that provides a clear view of the difficulties encountered and may assist future IoT implementation initiatives in the industrial sector in question. In this way, the research contributed to an in-depth understanding of the existing obstacles and provided practical and strategic support for overcoming them.
