This research explores the in-vitro wound healing effects of Ettikottai Mathirai on KB cells, highlighting its cytotoxic potential and impact on cell migration.
Wound healing is a complex and dynamic biological process involving multiple cellular and molecular mechanisms. Traditional medicine systems, such as Siddha, offer various formulations that may enhance wound repair. This study investigates the in-vitro wound-healing potential of the Siddha formulation Ettikottai Mathirai (EM) using the KB cell line. EM, a polyherbal formulation, contains key ingredients with known therapeutic properties, including Piper nigrum, Zingiber officinale, Strychnos nux-vomica, Syzygium aromaticum, and Citrus limon. This study employs an MTT assay to evaluate cytotoxicity and a scratch wound-healing assay to assess cell migration. Results reveal that EM exhibits dose-dependent cytotoxic effects on KB cells, with significant inhibition observed at higher concentrations. The scratch assay demonstrates that EM effectively suppresses cell migration, suggesting its potential role in wound healing and cancer cell inhibition. These findings highlight the therapeutic potential of Ettikottai Mathirai, warranting further research to elucidate its molecular mechanisms and clinical applicability.
